About the Talk

In this illustrated talk, Louise Higham tells the extraordinary story of her grandmother, Odette Sansom — one of the most celebrated women recruited into Churchill's Special Operations Executive during the Second World War. Louise traces Odette's path from recruitment into the SOE, through the dangerous undercover work she and other female agents carried out in occupied France, to her capture by the Germans and imprisonment in a concentration camp. The talk also touches on Odette's remarkable survival, and on her life after the war — including the recognition she received for her wartime courage.

Told with the intimacy of family history and illustrated throughout, this is a personal and moving account of one woman's role in one of the war's most secretive operations.

About the Speaker

Louise Higham is the eldest daughter of Odette's youngest daughter, Marianne, and now works as a foster carer in West Sussex.
